DEATH OF WILLIAM COLLETT

Well Known Resident of Community Dies at York

William Collett, an old and respected resident of Hamilton county, died last Tuesday [July 3, 1917] at the Lutheran hospital in York after a few weeks’ illness from cancer of the stomach. His death came as a great shock; those about him did not suspect the end was so near, as he had been ill only a short time.

Funeral services were held Friday at 8 p. m. at the German Lutheran church north of town, of which Mr. Collett was a faithful member. Rev. Brommer, the pastor, officiated. A large number of relatives and friends were present. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church.

William Collett was born in Pomern, Germany, in 1848 and was 69 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Nebraska in 1872 and was married to Theresa Rhode [Rohde] November 20, 1875*. To this union were born five children, two of whom are still living, Herman and William, both of this county. Besides the sorrowing wife and two sons he leaves two brothers, John, a retired farmer of this place, and Herman, a teacher in Germany. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of their friends in their hour of affliction.
